What You Need
- Legal right to work in Canada and a Social Insurance Number
- Reliable transportation, or a transit route that gets you to the site for your shift
- Availability for the shifts you apply for (days, afternoons, nights or weekends)
- A valid Ontario security guard licence, required by law, which means completing approved basic security guard training and passing the provincial test
- To be at least 18 years old
- A clean, professional appearance and good communication skills
Pay and Shifts
Pay depends on the employer, the role and the shift, and your recruiter tells you the hourly rate before you accept a job. Under Ontario’s Employment Standards Act you are paid at least minimum wage, overtime after 44 hours in a week, vacation pay and public holiday pay.
Security work covers nights, weekends and holidays, so there are many evening, overnight and weekend shifts alongside days.
